Ghost Battle

Overview

Ghost Battle was a 48-hour game jam project that I created during my first year of university. The theme of the game jam was Halloween, and teams were allowed to have up to three members. I worked in a team of two with a classmate, and we placed second in the final results.

This was my first game jam and one of my earliest game development projects, so it was a valuable experience in working under time pressure, managing a small project scope, and quickly turning an idea into a playable game.

My Role

For this project, my main responsibilities were level design, Blueprint implementation, UI design, and creating the overall atmosphere of the game.

Since we were working as a two-person team, we split the work between us. My teammate focused on modelling, sound, and some of the Blueprint work, while I focused on building the level, designing the UI, and contributing to the gameplay Blueprints.

My main design goal was to create a level that matched the Halloween theme and felt atmospheric, even with a simple layout. I spent time working with fog, water, lighting, and environmental details to give the game a stronger mood and sense of place.

Although it was a short project, I was happy with the final result, especially as my first game jam. It helped me become more comfortable with quick prototyping, working to a strict deadline, and making design decisions that supported the theme and overall player experience.

Tools I Used
